X-Men #14 (Nov 65): Among Us Stalk... the Sentinels!Creative Team: Stan Lee DS, director of story; Jack Kirby DL, dean of layouts; Jay Garvin MA, master of art; V Colletta BI, bachelor of inking; Artie Simek TOL, tired of lettering
Starting Line Up: Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, Marvel Girl
Synopsis: Bolivar Trask, an eminent athropologist, starts going on TV to announce the "mutant threat"; that mutants exist an will be taking over the world. Xavier goes on TV to debate with him. Trash unveils his mutant hunting robots, the Sentinels. They immediately turn on him and decide the best way to protect humanity is to rule it. The X-Men fight and defeat one, then track the others back to their base. Oh, and Cyclops is still too afraid to ask out Marvel Girl because he doesn't think he can compete with Angel.
Yeah, but is it good? Stan Lee finally does it here. This type of story is where the X-Men should have gone after the original Brotherhood arc. The anti-mutant hysteria gives more context to both Xavier and Magneto's philosophies. It's just a shame it was never followed up and explored in the early days. And our love triangle is still on slow burn.
Significata: First appearance of Bolivar Trask. First appearance of the Sentinels. The first issue based out anti-mutant hysteria from humans.
