X-Men #15 (Dec 65): Prisoners of the Mysterious Master Mold!

Creative Team: Smilin' Stan Lee, writer; Jolly Jack Kirby, designer; Jovial Jay Gavin, penciler; Darlin' Dick Ayers, inker; Adorable Artie Simek, letterer

Starting Line Up: Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, Marvel Girl

Synopsis: The X-Men infiltrate the Sentinels base, but are captured. They are taken to Master Mold, a giant Sentinel that makes other Sentinels (although it doesn't know how to do it, it still needs Trask's help). It uses a mind probe on Beast to find out where the X-Men's base it, but all it gets is him being picked on as a kid for looking different, his high school athletic career, and Xavier recruiting him into the X-Men (though Xavier's name is never given). Trask realises mutants arn't bad are just like regular humans. Master Mold orders him to create an army of new Sentinels.

Yeah, but is it good? This issue has two parts: Beast's origin, which isn't that exciting, and the X-Men running around the base fighting Sentinels, which is only ok. This is more of an extension of the last issue with fighting instead of a continuation of the idea. Although it does have Trask coming to the realisation he was wrong and that mutants aren't all evil.

Significata: First appearance of Master Mold. Beast's origin told. Trask realises he was wrong and mutants aren't evil. Title goes monthly as of this issue.
