X-Men #2 (Nov 63): No One Can Stop the Vanisher!Creative Team: written by Stan Lee; drawn by Jack Kirby; inked by Paul Reinman; lettered by Sam Rosen
Starting Line Up: Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, Marvel Girl
Synopsis: The Vanisher, another evil mutant, starts robbing banks. His power is teleportation. He intends to steal national defense plans and sell them to other countires. He's so arrogant about his ability to do so, he flat out tells everyone. The X-Men are unable to defeat him without the help of Xavier. Xavier just wipes his memory.
Yeah, but is it good? It's fun enough. The Vanisher actually has a sensible plan. And the X-Men are actually unable to defeat a teleporter. Coincidentally enough, the new X-Men would feature one and he would be treated as the weakest member. We get our first inklings of a romance on the team - between Marvel Girl and Angel. Someone else will enter that situation and make it a triangle.
Signicata: First appearance of the Vanisher. Xavier has to save the day because his students can't. Xavier's connection to the FBI is mentioned. Marvel Girl's powers are still quite weak.
