  X-Men #5 (May 64): Trapped: One X-Man!

Creative Team: spell-binding story by Stan Lee; dazzling drawing by Jack Kirby; inking: Paul Reinman; lettering: S. Rosen

Starting Line Up: Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast, Marvel Girl

Synopsis: The Toad wins a track meet in disguise using his powers to attract the X-Men's attention. A lynch mob nearly kills him until the X-Men save him. The Brotherhood attacks them and takes Angel captive. Toad is left behind, but goes back to Magneto and the other X-Men just follow. The Brotherhood is aboard Astroid M. The astroid is destroyed in the battle, but everyone escapes with their own teams. Xavier was faking his injury to make sure the X-Men could pass their "final exam" without him.

Yeah, but is it good? I like concept of the Brotherhood showing up constantly, but this story didn't do anything the last one didn't. The X-Men thwarted their plan and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch still hate Magneto. The lynch mob attacking a mutant is the first showing that normal heroes hate mutants, which is what the comic should be all about.

Significata: The X-Men "graduate". First apperance of Astroid M. First apperance of Marvel Girl's parents, but names are not given yet. First time a humans attack a mutant out of fear.
